Find the distance of (1,0,0) from the line r=t(12i -3j -4k)

OpenStudy (thebatman):

...is this plug and play? I forget vectors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a-level vectors

OpenStudy (thebatman):

yeah...forgot

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

t = 0 is only 1 away. Does it ever get closer than that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any idea how to solve?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Distance Formula seems like a good idea. Work on \(D^{2}\), though.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Alternatively, can you write an expression for all vectors orthogonal to that line? If so, find the one that runs through (1,0,0) and you'll have another good poke at it.
