you can solve it like this... All I did was divide the 2 from the 10 and got 5 then replaced x with 5 and got the answer of 5 after doing the math. x^2-2x-10=5 5^2-2(5)-10=5 25-2(5)-10=5 25-10-10=5 15-10=5
