When did photosynthesis evolved?

There is strong evidence that photosynthetic organisms appeared around 3.2-3.5 billion years ago. However, there are other theories, and all are currently controversial. No one really knows.

Agree with PlantMan, but we have a strong idea where to look, it is believed that ancestors to the photosynthetic filamentous cyanobacterium Anabaena might just lead back to the original chloroplast.
