How did Prohibition contribute to the growth of organized crime?

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Prohibition is known as the period of time where alcohol was outlawed, but most people didn't want it to be. So, in order to get alcohol, people had to break the law. Because there was a huge market for alcohol, people could make a lot of money making and transporting and distributing alcohol. To do that, it had to be organized. For more information, you can try searching online for moonshiners and rum-runners.
