I think if you changed excited to "happy", it'll sound much more natural.

The word 'that' is not always necessary to use. It is grammatically correct if you put it in, or leave it out. 

So that's up to you:) 

I personally think it sounds a bit wordy in most sentences, but in this case it sounds nicer when added. :)
