An alpha particle has 2 protons. What is the electric field created 55cm away from an alpha particle? How do you solve these problems D:

OpenStudy (badhi):

E. Field on r distance from a particle with q charge is, $$E=\frac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_0}\frac{q}{r^2}$$ It is given that alpha particle has 2 protons, you know the charge of a proton from that you can find q - charge of the alpha particle. Since the distance is also given you can find the electric field created at the given distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dont you mean 8.99 times 10 ^9 ?

OpenStudy (badhi):

What I get as the answer is 9.52x10^-9. I don't think an alpha particle can generate 10^9N of a force

OpenStudy (masumanwar):

use coulombs invers square law for electric field or gausses law
