While it has been established past reasonable doubt that 42 is the meaning of life, it is not the definition of "what is life." 

Life is very hard to define in scientific terms. People toss about such criteria as "able to grow" (so are inorganic crystals), "able to self replicate" (as are computer viruses), and so on - but for any single criteria that anyone has put forward, a reasonably intelligent devil's advocate has been able to put forward a counter example of a non-living thing that meets those criteria.

The best I'd say is that 'life' is the circumstance that meets a reasonable number of these definitions. The next best I'd say is what the judge said in the is-it-pornography-or-art case, "I know it when I see it."

if you're not joking around, then growth, metabolism, reproduction, response to stimuli and movement are the main characteristics one would use to define living things.

well.. For me Its like.. " A gift of God for us to see his creations and An adventorous, thrilling, emotional way of visiting his gifts in every aspects through human thoughts, deeds and research along with their lives".
