okay for the first equation get either the y or the x on one side. its your choice

okay so lets do the x-4y=1 equation. subtract x from both sides and subtract one from both sides. you'll get -1-4y=-x divide both sides by negative 1 and you'll get 1+4y=x now you have x so plug x back into the first equation.

when you plug x back into the second equation, 2(1+4y)-9y=1 and solve

you should come up with 2+8y-9y=1 combine like terms you'll get 2-y=1 subtract one and add y to both sides to get 2-1=y so y=1 plug y back into the original bottom equation.

x-4(1)=1 multiply x-4=1 add 4 to both sides x=5 so your answer is..?
