OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

I'm getting horrible connection quality from Hong Kong. All pings are timed out, and here's my traceroute: http://pastebin.com/pv0mU23H The connection quality is preventing me from answering questions efficiently.

OpenStudy (falco276):

where are you from?

Parth (parthkohli):

OpenStudy Lite is the need, I think.

OpenStudy (falco276):

Open study Lite? What's that?

Parth (parthkohli):

I can redesign the site, but I think it's a little too much of work. Plus I need to read the whole CSS and HTML (also the programs) to proceed which is a lot of work.

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

@Falco276 Hong Kong, as I stated in the question. ;) @ParthKohli I will start debugging the site to see whether the problem is the site's design, the network in between or generally just me.

OpenStudy (falco276):

ah okay, I see now. :)

Parth (parthkohli):

I think it's the design which is really heavyweight. We need something very simple and soothing, unlike the usual forums. Consider the design of this kind: http://math.stackexchange.com It's neither too dynamic nor too shabby.

OpenStudy (falco276):

looks complicated. (to me.)

Parth (parthkohli):

@Preetha What do you think?

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

@ParthKohli I'm not familiar with the Lift framework and I haven't dug into the scripts and CSSes, so I can't comment, but Lift is supposed to be a high-performance framework, which is making me think that it's the server or the network.

Parth (parthkohli):

Use "Inspect Element".

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

@ParthKohli I'm using Google PageSpeed for this purpose. Here are two problems I've found so far: 1. Webpages are not gzipped. It will save 1MB of data that needs to be sent. 2. There are too many javascripts, and some of them may be blocking the page load. Some of them are also not compressed.

OpenStudy (preetha):

Tyteen and Parth, thanks for your help. Any insight would be appreciated! I love wunderteens!

Parth (parthkohli):

@tyteen4a03 I agree with 2. I tried out turning on my firewall and it had me accept way too many elements on the page.
