Tell what you can do to the first inequality in order to get the second. Be sure to list all steps. 1. 4x - 2 # 6; x # 2 help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Starting with: 4x - 2 (symbol) 6 you can add 2 to both sides to get: (4x - 2) + 2 (symbol) 6 + 2 which changes to: 4x - 2 + 2 (symbol) 6 + 2 regrouped: 4x + 2 - 2 (symbol) 8 4x + (2 - 2) (symbol) 8 4x + 0 (symbol) 8 4x (symbol) 8 divide by 2: x (symbol) 2

In each case, the "symbol" can be < or > or <= or >= or = because when we divided, we divided by a positive number, so the inequality direction would not change. The symbol is the same direction for the whole problem.
