Congruent triangles are exactly the same, which means that they have the same corresponding side lengths and angle measures. However, similar triangles have the same corresponding angle measures, but their sides are proportional, not the same. That means that similar triangles will have a common ratio between their side lengths. That is why if two triangles are similar, a bigger triangle will still have side lengths that are proportional to the smaller triangle and vice versa.
