What accounts for water’s properties of adhesion and cohesion?

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

surface tension

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@blurbendy "Surface tension" is an example of cohesion. Water has surface tension because the molecules are cohesive. But surface tension is not the reason for cohesion and adhesion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ @heyimstuipd COHESION is the way water molecules tend to stick to other water molecules. And ADHESION is the way water molecules tend to stick with other types of molecules. Water has these two properties, because of the HYDROGEN BOND that is formed, between the hydrogen atoms, and the oxygen atom.
