OpenStudy (anonymous):
3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
be careful... try again...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok... so the equation is now: |x-4| = -3 agreed?

yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
on the left side is absolute value... can that ever be negative?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No so now it is x+4=3 ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no....
since the left side can NEVER be negative, then no matter how hard you try, you cannot find x so that it will equal -3...
in other words, there is NO solution to this equation.

Thank you

can you help me with this one too?
|2x + 4| < 10?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok... solving inequalities you'll need to write two separate statements:
2x + 4 < 10 OR 2x + 4 > -10
solve these two and you'll have the solution set....
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=3 or x=-7
OpenStudy (anonymous):
well < and >

ive should have written it this way:
2x + 4 < 10 AND 2x + 4 > -10
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x<3 AND x>-7 is correct
so anything BETWEEN -7 AND 3 will be a solution to the inequality...
