In a 5.00 km race, one runner runs at a steady 11.1 km/hr and another runs at 14.5 km/hr. How long does the faster runner have to wait at the finish line to see the slower runner cross?

In a 5.00 km race, one runner runs at a steady 11.1 km/hr and another runs at 14.5 km/hr.  How long does the faster runner have to wait at the finish line to see the slower runner cross?

Okay, you know the distance, and you know the speed for each runner.  Find the times that each runner takes to finish the distance.  Subtract the time of the faster runner from that of the slower runner to find out how long they had to wait.

time = distance / speed
