A scientist found a hominid fossil that appeared anatomically to be that of Homo habilis. It was found, however, in a rock layer that suggests it is only about 150,000 years old. Based on this, he wants to publish a paper asserting the fossil shows that Homo habilis lived much longer than thought and was contemporary with early Homo sapiens. Which of the following should he do before he publishes?
