Convert fraction to decimal (or mixed decimals and round to nearest hundredth) 5/7

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Do long division of 5 divided by 7. Then write down the result with two decimal places.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that easy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow just could not understand how it was worded thx

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes. If you are doing long division by hand (without a calculator), do it to the third decimal place. Then you can round it off to the second decimal place.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you are rounding it to the nearest hundredth 0.70 or .071

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.71 sorry

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The result of the long division is 0.7142857... Since you want it to the nearest hundredth, you must keep the second decimal place. That is the 1. Since the digit after the 1 (the 4) is less than 5, you keep the 1 as 1. The answer is 0.71 If the digit after the 1 were 5 or higher, then it would be 0.72.
