What is the coefficient of the 1st degree? -3x-5x^5+3x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can imagine that the x with no exponent marked has a exponent of 1. \[-3x=-3x ^{1}\] That's to the first degree (1st) because it is raised to the 1st degree. This would be to the 2nd degree: \[3x ^{2}\]
