A rectangular swimming pool is 10 ft longer than it is wide, and it has a surrounding deck of width 3 ft on each side of the pool. If the area of the pool and deck is 1,344 ft ^2, find the dimensions of the outside edge of the deck.

The dimensions for the area of the pool and deck would be (x+10+3) by (x+3). You add 3 to the length and width because that is the extra length for each side of the pool. You set (x+13)(x+3) equal to 1344, then solve. when you find x, plug it in to (x+13) and (x+3) to get the Length and Width, respectively.
