At the library, you find 9 books on a certain topic. The librarian tells you that 55% of the books on this topic have been signed out. How many books does the library have on this topic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you solve this by finding out what is the percent of books are in the library

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if 55 percent gone, than 45% remains (subtract from 100%)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't it be 5 books?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

read your question...they have 9 books there so they HAVE to have more in total

OpenStudy (anonymous):

55%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 9/.45 = 20 they have 20 books total

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so lets check...55% are checked out so 20* .55 = 11 that would leave 9 in the library (20-11 = 9) did you follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 9 - 20?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is 11?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh yeah... Ok know i get it!!! Thanks so much! :D

You are more than welcome...
