If the adaption of a cactus is that it has spiky thorns, thick cell wall and outer skin. What will be the function?? please help me!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So why did you close your last question about dolphins, before anyone had a chance to answer it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because i already answered it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you tell me the answer to the dolphin question, I'll give you the answer to this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha deal. I wrote that the function of a dolphin is that it will be able to breathe actual air and go up to land for a short period of time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's more or less correct. Dolphins don't actually go up to land. They always stay in the water. But they have holes (nostrils) at the top of their heads, so that they can poke their heads out from beneath the water, and get air. Yes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This question about the cactus is similar to the one about the camel, because it's all about water conservation. Cacti (plural) live in the desert, where it's really hot. You know those needles that you see on a cactus? Those are actually its leaves. They're very special leaves. Very pointy and narrow. And since these needles are pointy and narrow, they don't lose water quickly. This is also the reason for why cacti have thick cell walls. These thick cell walls help the cactus hold onto their water supply, so that the water doesn't transpire (sort of like evaporate) too quickly.

o.O that's alot of writting! and yeah i get what your saying here.thanks it helps alotxD

No problem. I try to make my explanations as clear as possible.
