-3x less than or equal to 9 i got the answer x is greater than 3...is this correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually it would be greater than -3. I think.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

-3x <= 9 Divide both sides by -3, but when you multiply or divide an inequality by a negative number, the inequality sign changes direction: -3/3 x >= 9/ -3 x >= -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but negative 3 would be the correct answer just change my sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, you flip the sign when you divide by a negative value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like if it said 8x-7<or equal to 41 it would be x>or equat to 6...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but in this case above there is no neg number so i can keep my same sign

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

8x -7 <= 41 Add 7 to both sides: 8x <= 48 Divide both sides by 8 x <= 6 Since 8 is positive, inequality sign does not flip
