What is the value of m in the figure below? ( Picture attached below )

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: find the altitude first, then use this altitude to find the value of m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would that be 77?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the altitude is actually sqrt(77), but you're very close

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

now use the pythagorean theorem a^2 + b^2 = c^2 ( sqrt(77) )^2 + 7^2 = m^2 m^2 =77 + 49 keep going to solve for m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt(126)? Is that correct?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

m = sqrt(126)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome! Thanks I really appreciate it!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
