all the units cancel to get to ft/sec. The arithmetic just goes across what is up is upstairs and what is downstairs is downstairs so = (1 x 1 x 5280)/(60 x 60 x 1)
This btw is called the factor label method. Works great for really complicated conversions but is good for simple ones like this when first learning.
