what is the area formula for a regular polygon

i could develop a formula, but it would involve knowing some trig ..... which is what my first idea was.

but it seems like there are 3 or 4 basic formulas, all dealing with sin cos or tan trigs, depending on the information given.

ifn you know the apothem and side already, then you know the base and height of all the triangles that fill it ....
