Are these two triangles similar? & how do you know if they are or aren't?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hero (hero):

Hint: At least two of the angles for both triangles must be congruent in order for both triangles to be similar. Do you see that here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so C = F?

hero (hero):

Okay, so that's one pair of congruent angles. Any others?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

E & H anddddd D & G, I think? haha

hero (hero):

No, you have to know for sure. Nothing in the given triangles tells us that anything else is congruent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true sorry hahaha so it's only C = F ?

hero (hero):

Is that enough to say both triangles are similar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe not, do we have to find out what the rest of the angles are?

hero (hero):

Try doing that and see what happens

hero (hero):

You know that angles add to get 180 so find the values of the missing angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

E = 67 G = 53 Ohh I get it now! so it is, E = H and D = G, and C = F and the way we know is by finding out the other angles

hero (hero):

Yes. Like I said, you have to know for sure. Finding the other angles is the only way to know for sure.

Thank you! :)
