how many years is 9 half lives?

OpenStudy (rogue):

It depends on how long one half life is. And half life of what? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm talking about carbon-14 dating.

OpenStudy (rogue):

Well Carbon-14 has a half life of ~ 5730 years, so 9 half lives would be 9 times that. 5730 yrs * 9 = ~ 51,570 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, I thought it was 5,700. Thank you!!

OpenStudy (rogue):

There are lots of estimations for the half-life of carbon, 5,700 also works :)
