First, tell us what numbers you *are* getting for slope and the intercept.

Just from estimation, the y-intercept looks to be about 850. What were you getting?

Oh the y-intercept looks like it should actually be where the 1999 is, as x is the number of years after 1999 (ie at 1999, x = 0). Maybe 865 (millions of people) for the intercept.

The thick red line is an approx. line of best fit. The little purple line is showing the approx. y-intercept, because x = 0 at 1999.
