OpenStudy (raden):

use the pythagorean theorem : x^2 = 24^2 - 12^2 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pythagorean Theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 In this case, you have the hypotenuse and the height so you can fill in it as: 12^2 + b^2 = 24^2 *b is the same thing as x and you can just solve for the missing variable by squaring the numbers and moving 12^2 over to the right side by subtracting it. Voila! the answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@swin2013 So 24^2=576, 12^2=144, 576-144=432 but whats the square root?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if not, just type it in google. square root of 432. you know that it is between 20 and 21 "

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since 432 is between 400 and 441

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 20.78 would that be right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! Can you help me with 1 other problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
