Im a little new to this:) Which of the following values is NOT equal to 34(58+9)? A. 34 x 67 B. 58(34+9) C. 34 x 58 + 34 x 9 D. 1,972 + 306 E. (9 + 58) 34
if you eliminate the ones that it couldn't possibly be you'll find this: A. if you simplify the bracket (58+9) you find you get 67. so 34(58+9) is the same as 34 x 67. C. if you use the distributive law, you'll find (34 x 58)+ (34 x 9). so that is correct D. as above...if you then simplify the brackets, you'll find that (34 x 58) equals 1972 and (34 x 9) equals 306. E. is the same thing as 34(58+9) just rearranged a little. So in the end, the one that is not like the others is B. try solving B, then compare it to solving the original equation.
B. is 58 x 34 + 58 x 9, which is not the same as 34 x 58 + 34 x 9.
