Do you see how to get 450?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

wait, that's too big, it should just be 45

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

guess I read it too quickly

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

20% of what is 9 0.2x = 9 x = 9/0.2 x = 45 So 20% of 45 is 9

Jonas answered this question as shown. Explain his error and provide the correct solution.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to evaluate 9/0.2 you would use long division similar to what you see in the attachment

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

his error is that he said that 20% = 0.02 when it should be 20% = 0.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is that the answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

pretty much, he mixed up 20% and 2%

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

when he converted to decimal form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

IF he wanted 2% of some number = 9, then the answer would have been 450
