What is the value of X?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 2.5 7.5 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 could you help me again? :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the two triangles are similar

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so we have this ratio we can set up x/(2x+5) = (x-2)/(2x-1)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I got 2x+5 by adding x and x+5 I also got 2x-1 from adding x-2 and x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still confused... D: @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x/(2x+5) = (x-2)/(2x-1) x(2x-1) = (2x+5)(x-2) 2x^2 - x = 2x^2 - 4x + 5x - 10 2x^2 - x = 2x^2 + x - 10 0 = 2x^2 + x - 10 - 2x^2 + x 0 = 2x^2 + x - 10 - 2x^2 + x 0 = 2x - 10 2x - 10 = 0 I'll let you finish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So x would be 5? @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, x = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
