You just finished a cup of very strong coffee, which causes your body to have a general feeling of arousal. That afternoon you walk past a cemetery where several people are crying at a graveside. According to Schachter and Singer, which of the following would most likely occur? You would work very hard to control your emotion. Your emotional state would be impossible to predict. Your emotion would be sad since the context would affect your labeling. Your emotion would be happy in spite of the scene at the graveside

The Schachter-Singer Theory of Emotion says that when we feel physiologically aroused, when we feel..."worked up," on the inside, we label that feeling, based on what is going on around us. When we drink a cup of coffee, we feel very worked up. Jumped. Aroused. (It's because of the caffeine.) But this..strange feeling...doesn't have a label. You know? It's just a weird, hyper feeling. The actual label depends on what is going on, in our environment. If we're already worked up from the caffeine, and then we see someone crying, then we've found our label: SADNESS. And therefore, we will feel sad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Take a look at our THIRD choice, under the question.
