Linda is designing a poster. The top of the poster is 4 inches long, and the rest of the poster is 2 inches longer than the width. If the poster requires 616 sq inches of poster board, find the width of the poster.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to take 616 divided by 4 inches.. then when you get that answer divide that by 2..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What i did was 4(x+2) =616 I got x= 152 L=154 W=152 i dont understand why i have to divide by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK!! lol only why you have to divide by 2 is because, that is the last of the posterboard.. Or as i would do it i would take 616 divided by 4 then take that answer divided by 2 because, it is the last of the problem you have to do ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok i hope it is right although still dont understand why i need to divide.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lol if not i am sorry because that is how i was taught to do it ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much but lets see if i get the same answer from someone else. It is extra credit and i really need it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are very welcome and ok if it is wrong i am terribly sorry i mean i really will be lol ((=
