height (in feet) of a ball thrown horizontally y=-(1/14)x^2) +2x +6 how high is it when it leaves the ground? Maximum height of the ball? how far does it go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is x? The horizontal distance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Well, the height when thrown is the value of y when x = 0. The function gives you an inverted parabola. Find the vertex and you know the maximum height. Find the value where y = 0 and x > 0 and you know how far it goes.
