HELP me & ill become your fan!
@Zelda
Question is?
Since you know 5x + 4y = 18 then that becomes one of your equations. 2x+y = 6 so that becomes your second equation. A method you can use is to isolate both y's first then make them equal each other.
@jiji501 how to isolate them?
Well, here we go. Since this is a rectangle, we know that: 6 = 2x+y and 18 = 5x+4y Then the first equation becomes: y= -2x+6 Now we sub this into equation 2. So we get: 18 = 5x + 4(-2x+6) = 5x + 24 -8x Then 18 = -3x +24 becomes: -6 = -3x so x = 2. Next put this into first equation: 6 = 2x+y so it goes to 6 = 2(2) + y = 4 +y So we get y = 2 In the end, x = 2 and y = 2. You're already my fan though :D How about a testimonial?
Bring the x over so for: 5x + 4y = 18 5x-5x+4y = 18-5x 4y = 18-5x y = (18-5x)/4
@Zelda Thank you!
@jiji50, although that is a way, here substitution is a lot easier.
Haha, Substitution works but I always preferred that way.
