Confused. Mr. Gates donated a large sum of money to the cause. He insisted that $240,000 which represented 60% of the donation, be used for transportation costs. The remainder of the money was to be used for purchasing goods. Determine the amount of money Mr. Gates wanted to be used for purchasing goods.

It might help if you know the total amount of money that Mr. Gates donated.

So let's call that total amount of money x. Then it is said that 60% of x is 240000 That means 0.6x = 240000 Solve for x :)

okay i got the answer 400,000. So would i then subtract 240,000 from 400,000?

Very good :) Go ahead and do that.
