How did Germany use their power in the sea during World War I?

They used what were called German U-boats, or unterseeboots, which were submarines that carried approximately 39 men in very tight quarters. They would target many Allied vessels in the Atlantic, including anything from warships to supply ships that are taking supplies to the allied forces. Aside from that, they would also blockade ports, attacking any ship that came into range (I believe they even attacked other German ships until told otherwise), which would severely decrease the amount of supplies heading to the battlefields in Europe.
