If I don't get help, my bus will run out of diesel.
A lemming marches off an ice berg, falling directly downward from a height of 12.40 meters. 0.10 seconds later, he is 9.151 meters above the ocean below. 0.20 seconds this altitude is reduced to 5.804 meters, and at 0.30 seconds he as fallen to 2.359 meters above the ocean. THis? Since I only have 2 constant variables, could I just assign them x and y? 0, 0.10, 0.20. 0.30 12.40, 9.151, 5.804, 2.359
@azolotor @ghazi @nubeer @Spacelimbus I think you can help, you have before!
I would use t and y being time and height respectively. what you are looking for is an expression that relates y and t. So the total height is 12.40 m so the relation would be some like \[y(t)=12.4-xt\] where is its velcoity. Then from there you can use any of those value to solve. You should check them because the expression may be more complicated than I have written it. You may need two. One for the velocity and one for position but start with this and see what happens
Thanks, will do.
But the problem is i need a matrix
then t is one column and y is another
Very true.
stuck
Full question A lemming marches off an ice berg, falling directly downward from a height of 12.40 meters. 0.10 seconds later, he is 9.151 meters above the ocean below. 0.20 seconds this altitude is reduced to 5.804 meters, and at 0.30 seconds he as fallen to 2.359 meters above the ocean. 1. Via Matrix operations, develop a mathematical expression that represents this fall. 2. If the lemming failed to bring an umbrella, how many seconds into this fall would he impact the ocean? 3. If he did have an umbrella to break his fall, and he opened it 7.000 meters above the water, how much time would he have fallen freely prior to opening the umbrella? 4. What would his speed be the instant he opened his umbrella? 5What is his acceleration due to gravity?
lets first make a table|dw:1360531421262:dw|
Ok, got that.
How would you get from matrix to equation? Velcovity is positon / time
write a linear equation v vs t this is quadratic
Something like... F(X)=Ax^3+Bx^2+cx+d?
whoops quadratic, Ax^2...
ax+b
F(X)=Ax^2+Bx+C
\[h_1=h_0+v_0t+1/2at^2\]
\[h(x)=12.4+v_0t+\frac{1}{2}at^2\] \[h(0.1)=9.151=12.4+v_0(0.1)+\frac{1}{2}(-9.8)(0.1)^2 \implies v_0=-32\] \[h(t)=-4.9t^2-32t+12.4 \]
hence try to put h(0.2)=? h(0.3)=? this will give you the values in the tabble above
so we got the expreesion, but without using matrix the question says Via Matrix operations, develop a mathematical expression that represents this fall
we have to start from matrix to equation not vise versa
no idea from here
we have to use gauss-jordan elimination not good at it
2. h(t)=12.4 0=-4.9t^2-32t 3 h=12.4-7=5.4 5.4=-4,9t^2-32t+12.4 4 v=u+at=32-9.8(t) t from above 5 always constant
Thanks man!
