i need help with a Quadratic formula please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=\frac{ -1+\sqrt{-47} }{ 8 }\] this what i have so far now what do i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when i tried to sq. root it was a long decimal #

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you post the original function, this will result in an imaginary root.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4x ^{2}-x-3=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what i started with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured this one out i did it wrong the first time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4x^2-x-3=0\] \[x^2-\frac{1}{4}x-\frac{3}{4}=0\] \[x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\] \[x = \frac{-(-\frac{1}{4}) \pm \sqrt{(-\frac{1}{4})^2-4(1)(-\frac{3}{4})}}{2(1)}\] \[x = \frac{\frac{1}{4} + \frac{7}{4}}{2}=1\] \[x = \frac{\frac{1}{4} - \frac{7}{4}}{2}=-\frac{3}{4}\]
