If 9x-8y=4 and 2x-3y=-4, then what is the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[9x-8y=4\] \[2x-3y=-4\] There are several ways to solve this including matrices but the simplest way to do this would be to solve one of these for one variable and then plug that into another. You could also solve this using that as a system of equations and multiply one of the equations by a constant that will cause one of the variables to disappear when the equations are added are subtracted. Your choice

???Can you help me through the problem??

This is another good point. Okay so what is the first thing you want to do given what we told you?

slove for one variable first
