10^8n-5 = 1/10,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{1}{10000}=10^{-4}\] so what can you say about the exponents?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can solve them now?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

if 10^a = 10^b , what can you say about a and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=b

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Good. so set the exponents equal to each other and solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did, 8n-5 + -4, -5 both sides and I get 8n=1 then 8 both sides and I get 1/8 for an answer but that is not correct :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my mistake I meant = not +

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[10^{-4} = 10^{8n-5}\]\[-4=8n-5\]\[n=?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he got that answer, and he say's it's incorrect. maybe the question is different?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, thanks so much I had the problem wrong its actually a 6 not a 5
