A ball thrown horizontally with speed Vi = 26.0 m/s travels a horizontal distance of d = 50.0 m before hitting the ground. From what height was the ball thrown?

Okay so you can solve backwards for time and from there determine initial height. \[x=x _{0}+vt+1/2at^2\] where x = 50 and a = 0. Once you get the time it took to travel you can determine the height it started from using \[y=y _{0}+vt+1/2at^2\] where y = 0 v = 0 and y(zero) will be your height.
