Horace Mann was born in Franklin, Massachusetts, in 1796. At the age of 20, he was admitted to Brown University. After that, he practiced law and won a seat in the Massachusetts Senate. He focused mainly on improvements through the building of canals and railroads. The Massachusetts education system had been suffering since 1647, and in 1837 the nation’s first board of education was created, with Mann as its secretary.

Horace Mann s reforms and ideas have had influence during his time, and now in our time on many issues. Some of issues the issues are the purpose of education and the improvement of education. The purpose of education is a large subject and Horace Mann covered it completely throughout his life. Even today the purpose of our schools is almost the same as what Horace Mann prescribed it should be long ago.

It explain what he influenced from his reforms and ideas.
