5x2+2x-1

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you mean\[5x^2 + 2x - 1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you factorising it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if your trying to factorising it then this is how you would do it: When in doubt about factoring, "complete the square" ... y = 5x^2 + 2x - 1 or y = 5 ( x^2 + (2/5)x - 1/5 ) ... x^2 + (2/5)x = 1/5 or x^2 + 2(x)(1/5) = 1/5 or x^2 + 2(x)(1/5) + (1/5)^2 = (1/5)^2 + 1/5 or (x + 1/5)^2 = 6/25 or x + 1/5 = ± 1/5 √6 or x + 1/5 ± 1/5 √6 or y = 5 ( x + 1/5 - 1/5 √6 )( x + 1/5 + 1/5 √6 ) or y = (1/5) (5x+1-√6) (5x+1+√6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x=6, then evalute the expression

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Okay, so that is \[5(6)^2+2(6)-1 = \]
