|–3n| – 2 = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it's absolute value, -3n will become positive. 3n - 2 = 4 Remove two from the equation by adding it to both sides (because it's negative).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanx(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cant just remove the absolute value sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER? X/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start by isolating the absolute value sign this can be done by adding 2 to both sides now absolute value signs can be broken up into 2 different equations \[|-x|=n\] this can be broken up into \[-x=n & -x=-n\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I actually left it out... didn't notice. However, I did not work out the equation, so nothing changes. Tiffers, we cannot simply give you the answer... nor can I completely work it out. |3n| - 2 = 4, if you add 2 to both sides, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answers 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes now onto solving it |–3n| – 2 = 4 add 2 to both sides |–3n| – 2+2 = 4+2 |–3n| = 6 now we can break this up into 2 equations -3n= 6 & -3n=-6 then just solve for both n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just remember that you can't just remove the absolute value signs absolute value signs break the equation up into 2 different equations
