PLEASE HELP ME!!! Suppose a and b vary inversely, and b = 8 when a = 6. Write a function that models the variation and find b when a = 30.

@hartnn

hartnn (hartnn):

for inverse variation, the function will always be \(xy = k \: or \: y= k/x\) you'll just need to find the value of 'k' plug in b=8 and a=6 in ab = k and find the value of k ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 x 8 = k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

48

hartnn (hartnn):

yup, so value of k is ?

hartnn (hartnn):

correct, so your function is ab =48.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats it?? thanks <3

hartnn (hartnn):

now plug in a=30 to find the value of b in ab=48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok so 30 x 48 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1440

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I would have to divide 30 x b = 48
