50q+400=5900-60q; solve for q. the answer was q=50 but i didn't understand why, can someone explain please?

OpenStudy (ja1):

ok lets work through it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (ja1):

so first you have 50q+400=5900-60q

OpenStudy (ja1):

now what do you do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 400 and add 60? so its 110q=5500?

OpenStudy (ja1):

yes good and now you simply divide 110 on both sides to isolate the variable (q)

OpenStudy (ja1):

so 110/5500 is

OpenStudy (ja1):

actually my bad its 5500/110

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 50, lol when i tried the first time i was trying the other way with negatives and got confused. thanks for the help :D

OpenStudy (ja1):
