(10 + 2x)(15 + 2x) = 234
150 + 50x + 4x^2 - 234 = 0
4x^2 + 50 x - 84 = 0
2(2x^2 + 25x - 42) = 0
(2x - 3)(x + 14) = 0
x = 1.5
The pathway needs to be 1 1/2 feet wide to fulfill Megan's mom's request.
