Y = -4x

OpenStudy (kainui):

So what is -4 Yovovel? Think back to y=mx+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 is slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it the fourth graph?

OpenStudy (kainui):

No, it's not. It's the 3rd.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4th graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is it the third?

OpenStudy (kainui):

You can think of slope as "rise over run" in terms of being a fraction. So, -4/1 means rise -4 and run to the right 1 block. So if you look at the third graph you'll notice you're rising -4 (which means falling 4) and going over 1. Then you repeat that over and over to make a line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so everytime i have an equation like that, i place a one under it?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Yep, because technically all numbers are fractions over 1.
