39 loser123456789 0A slide 4.1 meters long makes an angle of 35° with the ground. To the nearest tenth of a meter, how far above the ground is the top of the slide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So which Trig function should we use? Remember Sin=opposite/hypotenuse cos=adjacent/hypotenuse tan=opposite/adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cos?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well x is opposite our angle and we know the hypotenuse...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly. Any guess as to how to setup the problem from there? sin(angle)=opp/hyp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin(35)=x/4.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BOOM! You got this! haha now just isolate x by multiplying both sides by what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's multiply both sides by 4.1 and see what happens.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.1*sin(35)=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's all there is to it. Trig isn't so bad, is it? ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the final answer or is there more simplifying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's it. Remember though if you're asked to give an actual number instead of 4.1*cos(35) plug it in to your calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, no worries! Best of luck. :)
